Situated between white walls and mediterranean vegetation, at the foot of the fortress lies the ancient Saracen Castle . Today known as Vello d’Oro or Golden Fleece an elegant hotel rich in tradition, gently leading down to the town centre and the sea. From one side the breathtaking mediterranean sea from Naxos Bay leading up to the volcano Etna and on the other side Monte Tauro and The Greek Theatre. The balconies of Vello D'Oro look over the historical centrecentre and a panoramic view of medieval houses in "Corso Umberto", a pedestrian precinct, restaurants, cafès and lovely shops. Vello D'oro was converted into a hotel in the 50s, it was once an old pottery school renowned for its use of colours. which can still be admired in abundance. The interior design and works of art from Maestro Cuscona's School contribute to the original atmosphere you find there. Maestro Cuscona and his Danish born wife became the first owners of Vello D'oro.
Vello D'oro is now managed by a new generation, it has been refurbished and has the lastest technology athough it has maintained its antique spirit. Favoured by those who
